Annual Father/Daughter Dance
March 13th, 7-9pm
The special bond between fathers and daughters will be in the spotlight at the third annual Daddy Daughter Dance, 7 to 9 p.m. March 13 at Harrison School, 920 Field Avenue. The event is organized by Young Life Sangre de Cristo, a local teen outreach group, and supported by Cañon City churches, organizations and businesses.
“This elegant evening is certainly designed to delight,” said Loren Kolman of Young Life. “But our larger goal is to encourage dads and daughters to have healthy relationships that will last long after the dance, and that will significantly influence these girls’ lives.”
Kolman said that studies show that young women with strong, positive relationships with their dads tend to be less sexually active, have higher intelligence levels, and be healthier emotionally. The father of three girls, he is passionate about championing these relationships in the community.
Dads and daughters of any age are welcome, as are those who have a father-figure relationship, including grandfathers and their granddaughters and uncles and their nieces. Last year, about 400 people attended the second annual Daddy Daughter Dance at the Annex Ballroom.
The dance will feature a DJ playing family friendly music as well as beverages, snacks, and door prizes. Tickets, sold at the door, are $10 for a father and daughter and $3 for each additional participating daughter. Portraits by Capture the Moment Photography will be available for a small fee. The evening’s proceeds will provide financial assistance for local teens attending a Young Life camp this summer.
Randy Bringman State Farm Insurance, Elk’s Lodges of Canon City and Florence, The Evangelical Free Church and Living Stone Calvary Chapel are assisting Young Life with finances, organization and volunteers. The State of Colorado Division of Correctional Industries Greenhouse is donating floral arrangements, and about 20 community businesses are supporting the event with finances and other resources. Several businesses are offering discounts to dads and daughters the day of the dance.
For more information, see www.sangredecristo.younglife.org, or call Kolman at 371-6040.
Living Stone Calvary Chapel, which is partnering directly with Young Life in organizing the third annual Daddy Daughter Dance, is committed to love and serve God and people. It bases its teachings and programs entirely on the Bible. Services are held Sundays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., with a children’s program offered at each. A youth fellowship, “Deep End,” runs each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. To learn more, see www.livingstonecalvary.com
